This policy explains how orders placed at www.thelokal.co.za are packed, delivered and collected.
Online orders are an extension of our shop floor - every order is hand-packed fresh by our in-store team using the same packaging we use in-store and delivered by The Lokal.
1. Our delivery model
Think of ordering online from The Lokal as the same experience as shopping with us in-store - just delivered to your door. Your products are packed fresh in our standard in-store packaging (no special courier boxes or cooler bags), handled with care and dispatched within your delivery window. This model works because we keep our delivery zone tight and our runs short.
2. Delivery areas
We currently deliver to the following suburbs only. Delivery availability is confirmed at checkout by postal code. If your postal code is not in the list below, delivery will not be available.

We are intentionally local. Our delivery zone is designed to keep orders fresh and our service personal. We are planning to expand. If your suburb is not listed yet, visit us in-store or email connect@thelokal.co.za.
3. Delivery fee
A flat delivery fee of R40 applies to all orders within the core zone, regardless of basket size. This fee is charged at checkout and is non-refundable once your order has been dispatched.
4. Minimum order value
A minimum order value of R700 applies to all standard online orders. Orders below this amount will not be processed.
Meat box orders (custom pre-orders) carry a separate minimum of R1,000. See Section 10 for details.
5. Order cutoff and delivery schedule
Order cutoff is 11:30 am for same day deliveries
Delivery window is between 15:00 - 18:00 for same day deliveries
Delivery days are only Monday to Thursday
Orders after cutoff will be delivered the following delivery day
Non-delivery days are Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays
Place your order by 11:30 am Monday to Thursday for same-day delivery. Orders placed on Thursday after 11:30 am or over the weekend will be processed on the following Monday.
6. Packaging
Products are packed and delivered in The Lokal’s standard in-store packaging. The same packaging you would receive if you shopped with us at Nine Yards. We do not use specialised courier boxes or cooler bags. Our delivery zone is kept deliberately short so that fresh products reach you quickly without requiring cold-chain packaging.
Meat products are wrapped and sealed in our standard butcher packaging. Pantry and lifestyle products are packed alongside in a carry bag, as they would be in-store.
7. Weight and pricing for meat products
Meat cuts sold online are priced on average weights. When packing your order, our team will select the cut closest to the advertised average weight. Actual weights may vary slightly from the charged weight due to the natural variation of fresh cuts.
If you feel the weight of a product received does not reasonably match the advertised weight and value charged, please contact us within 24 hours of delivery with:
• A photo of the product on a scale
• Your order number
We will review and, where appropriate, offer a replacement or credit. Under the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), you have the right to receive goods that correspond reasonably to what was described and paid for.
8. Product availability – fresh and frozen
Products available online reflect what is available in-store at Nine Yards. This means some products may be fresh and some may be frozen, depending on availability and the nature of the product.
As a guide:
• Beef cuts are always fresh
• Lamb cuts are always fresh
• Chicken cuts may be fresh or frozen depending on the week's processing
• Whole XXL chicken is always frozen
• Bone broth is always frozen
• Deli, pantry and lifestyle products are as available in-store
Someone must be present to receive your delivery. Our driver will contact you before arrival. If no one is available, please refer to Section 9 below.
9. Missed deliveries
If no one is available to receive your order at the time of delivery:
1. Our driver will attempt to contact you by phone.
2. If unreachable, the order will be returned to The Lokal and held in our in-store fridge/freezer for next-day delivery (an additional delivery charge may be charged the for the following delivery day).
3. If delivery fails a second time, your order will be kept at the store for collection. You will be notified to collect during shop hours.
We cannot hold perishable products indefinitely. Items that cannot be safely held will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
10. Click & collect (free)
Prefer to collect? Select Click & Collect at checkout. Your order will be packed and held in our in-store fridge during shop hours.
• Weekdays: 09:30 – 18:00
• Weekends & public holidays: 08:30 – 17:00
Collection is free and available seven days a week.
Orders are packed on arrival. Please bring your order confirmation to the store and we will pack your order fresh while you wait.

11. Meat box pre-orders
We offer custom meat boxes on a pre-order basis, built to your requirements and subject to stock availability. Meat box orders carry a minimum order value of R1,000 and are arranged directly with our team.
To build your box, email connect@thelokal.co.za. Delivery of meat boxes will be arranged and determined by the nature of the custom order.
12. Delivery of alcohol
Where alcohol is included: delivery is made to customers 18 years and older only. The recipient may be required to show valid ID. Orders will not be released to minors.
