Where The Lokal story begins

The Lokal began on our family farm in the Free State, where every holiday ended with a cooler box packed with incredible meat that tasted unlike anything we could find in the city. We realised that this unforgettable taste came from years of skill, intuition and patience. Taste has a maker.

Our mother, a respected Brangus stud breeder also fondly known as the “Brangus Queen”, taught us that great meat doesn’t start at the butcher or in the kitchen. It starts seasons earlier - with the right genetics, low‑stress herds, ethical care and a deep respect for the land. Her craft shaped our childhood and it shapes The Lokal today.

Craft Worth Preserving

We built The Lokal to make sure the craft of producers like her doesn’t disappear in the supply chain.

Behind our products, from our farm meats to pantry staples, small‑batch deli & lifestyle items is a maker whose skills have been honed over years, not moments.

Their work deserves to be seen, respected and preserved.

We exist to keep generational craft alive and bring their mastery directly to your home.

A Better Way to Shop for Meat

Our shop is warm, intuitive and intentionally created through a softer, female‑led lens that is inspired by the charm of a South African farmhouse kitchen.

You’ll find curated cuts displayed beautifully, complementary ingredients styled with intention, thoughtfully chosen colours drawn from fields and farmlands and staff who guide rather than intimidate.

Shopping for meat shouldn’t feel technical or clinical. At The Lokal, it feels comforting, inspiring and easy to enjoy.

From Land to Maker to Table

When you buy from The Lokal, you support the producers whose craft shapes the taste. You help preserve the skills, traditions and stories behind the item. And you bring home something made with care, honesty and intention.

From our land, through generational craft, to your table. Crafted with taste and a gift from us to you.
